Before a single stitch is sewn, before a pocket is placed, before a fit is finalised there is fabric. And at GR Denims, that fabric is ours. Not sourced, not outsourced, not picked off a supplier's catalogue. Woven by us, for us.
This is the one decision that shapes everything else about our jeans, so it deserves its own story.
Why We Weave Our Own Fabric
Most denim brands buy their fabric from third-party mills. They have little control over the yarn quality, the weave tightness, or the finishing they simply take what's available and build a product around it.
We chose a harder path. Backed by GR Enterprises, our parent textile manufacturing company running since 2003, we had the machinery, the mill experience, and the raw material know-how to weave denim ourselves. So instead of settling for someone else's fabric, we built our own.
The result is our signature 130 GSM GRD Denim Fabric a fabric designed from the yarn up, specifically for how our jeans are meant to look, fit, and last.
What Owning the Fabric Actually Gives You
1. Consistency, batch after batch When you buy fabric on the open market, every lot can differ slightly — a bit stiffer here, a bit lighter there. Because we weave our own denim in-house, every roll follows the same spec. That means the jeans you buy today will fit and feel just like the ones you buy next year.
2. Built for durability, not just looks 130 GSM isn't a random number it's a weight chosen for a fabric that holds its shape wash after wash, without feeling stiff or heavy on the body. We weren't designing fabric for a photoshoot; we were designing it for years of daily wear.
3. No compromise on quality control Quality control on fabric we don't own can only happen after it arrives at the receiving stage. Quality control on fabric we weave ourselves happens at every step: the yarn, the weave, the dye, the finish. Nothing reaches the cutting table unless it meets our own standard, not someone else's.
4. Freedom to keep improving Because we're not dependent on outside mills, we can refine our fabric over time adjust the weave, test new finishes, respond to what our customers actually feel when they wear our jeans. That kind of iteration simply isn't possible when you're buying fabric off a shelf.
From Yarn to Jeans, Under One Roof
Our own fabric doesn't stand alone it feeds directly into the rest of our process: cutting, stitching with Coats thread, finishing with genuine YKK zippers and strong buttons, all done in our own manufacturing unit. It's a closed loop, and the fabric is where that loop begins.
The Bottom Line
Fabric is the one part of a pair of jeans you can't fake with good marketing. It's either made well, or it isn't. By weaving our own 130 GSM GRD denim, we're not just controlling a supply chain we're controlling the single biggest factor in how a pair of jeans will actually perform on you, for years.
That's the difference between a brand that sells denim, and a brand that makes it.
